What’s in the email

  • Your valuation schemeThe VOA values a parade of shops as one scheme, at an agreed rate per square metre. When it reduces one unit, that is the single most useful signal you can get about your own value.
  • The wider areaEverything else that changed in your postcode district that month, so you can see whether a movement is local to you or general.
  • The marketHow rateable values moved across England by sector and by council, and where Checks and Challenges are being filed.

Most months are quiet. A valuation scheme sees a change in roughly one month in twelve, and a postcode district about one month in five — so the email will often tell you that nothing moved.
